Some days, I am thoughtful and inspired. Otherdays, it's just blah, blah, blah...

Summer Sweet Summer
Sigh... The worst part about growing up is remembering what it was like when you weren't. This week everyone is starting summer. I, however, am not. I am taking my only vacation this year for my wedding and honeymoon in October. So, I am not going to Florida (like I did last year and in 2008). I am not going up to Leech Lake (which I've done every year except last year). All I can say is my sophomore year of college and the summer following (2008) was probably the very best time of my life. I was living completely carefree (maybe too carefree, but whatever). At the end of my sophomore year of college, Sean professed his love to me and I started dating my best friend, the love of my life, my husband-to-be. I went out and visited him for a week in July when he was living in DC in the Channing Street house with all of our friends and that house, that group of people, being free in DC, my sophomore year dorm room (heck - the whole building)... All these places and people and things and sounds are what I miss the most. I love that feeling - that indescribable feeling of being young, carefree, on your own, invincible, in love... I miss it so much. I was finding out who I was, I was living in the moment, I was just... sigh... I have no words. I hate when I have a feeling so strong, so overwhelming, so warm, so wonderful I can not describe it. That's how those memories make me feel... And yet there's that haunting feeling that you know it won't ever be the same. Those experiences won't ever happen again. That feeling will never be truly felt again. But, I suppose, I am just lucky to have had it. So lucky. Well, I am going to make a summer playlist, open my windows, and pretend that this office is actually my sophomore year dorm room. Let's hope this works. : )

Here's to looking back and remembering all the sweetness of our past.
ReplyDeleteOctober will be here before you know it and when you have an AMAZING wedding and an even more memorable honeymoon, I know that what you had to do without this summer will be totally worth it.
